Our Story
— A small family business —
Zeppa’s New York Pizza is a family owned and operated business. Owners, Lisa and Hugh were both born and raised in New York. Lisa’s family owned Dominick’s Italian Restaurant in New Paltz, NY for 37 years.
Hugh was a bartender at Dominick’s during his college years and that’s when he and Lisa starting dating and have since been married for 31 years. Hugh and Lisa have two (adult) children Hannah and Riley. Riley is the kitchen manager at Zeppa’s and Hannah works in the arts in Southern California.
We bought Mike’s Country Store in February of 2022. The almost 100 year old building needed lots of work. So, another family venture, Hugh, his brother Chris and our good friend George spent 5 months fully renovating and updating the building. Thank you to Chris and George for their countless hours helping us!
The name Zeppa’s….
Hugh, Lisa, Hannah and Riley are HUGE DOG LOVERS. Over the past 31 years we have always had anywhere from 2-5 dogs at a time. ALL RESCUES.
In Italian, Zeppa is a shoe -but- to us Zeppa is our 13 year old mini Australian Sheppard. She is a very special dog to us that just happens to be FOOD OBSESSED! So we thought naturally the name Zeppa’s was fitting for a pizzeria!
Many of our recipes go back several generations to Lisa’s family in Italy. Other recipes were developed in partnership with Mark and Jenny Bello of Pizza School NYC.
